IDL 1064 - Phased Array Testing Level II (UT-PA II)
Phased Array method will be used to inspect typical samples such as welds, castings, forgings and rolled products. Topics covered will include: production of ultrasound, variables affecting test sensitivity, calibration procedures, and testing techniques. This course is based on and meet the training requirements for NRCan CGSB Level II. The Level II course will provide a basic knowledge of the principles of phased array and will allow the technician to perform established procedures under the supervision of Level 2 or Level 3 personnel. The Level II course will provide advanced theoretical knowledge and skills including sectorial and linear scans and advanced evaluation of flaws.
Prerequisites: All canditates must have CGSB UT Level II and some experience and knowlege operating an Olymus Omniscan MX, MX2 or MX3 etc to registar for Phased Array (PA). The students will not be able to participate without bringing and arranging the nessary equipment prior to class (Omniscan MX2 or MX3, Mini wheel encoder, Probes 5L64 A2, SA2 OL parallel wedge, SA2 N55S angled wedge, or 5L64 A2, SA12 0L parallel wedge, SA12 N55S angled wedge, proper software for multipgroup option) . IDL Inspection may provide some direction about the qualificatins nessary but guide lines are to NRCan CGSB 48.9712-2022.
